February 2010

Wrap up of thoughts on February readings and such… My computer has just about died and I have not been able to load any blog front page without a crash. I’m able to go into blogger and edit and publish, but that’s about it. Right now I am in Georgia helping out after my mom’s surgery and I can finally see my blog again and some others. I’m so behind on all my reading it is silly! If we can make a little more money through my mom’s Etsy shop I’ll be able to buy a new computer… but until then I must endure.  March will bring a new series to my Creative Madness. That of babywearing. Every day there will be a new post on babywearing. Either a guest post dealing with something to do of the topic, tips and advice, a review of a specific carrier, or a. . .

Review: The Dead Travel Fast by Deanna Raybourn

The Dead Travel Fast by Deanna Raybourn A husband, a family, a comfortable life: Theodora Lestrange lives in terror of it all. With a modest inheritance and the three gowns that comprise her entire wardrobe, Theodora leaves Edinburgh — and a disappointed suitor — far behind. She is bound for Roumania, where tales of vampires are still whispered, to visit an old friend and write the book that will bring her true independence. She arrives at a magnificent, decaying castle in the Carpathians replete with eccentric inhabitants: the ailing dowager; the troubled steward; her own fearful friend, Cosmina. But all are outstripped in dark glamour by the castle’s master, Count Andrei Dragulescu. Bewildering and bewitching in equal measure, the brooding nobleman ignites Theodora’s imagination and awakens passions in her that she can neither deny nor conceal. His allure is superlative, his dominion over the superstitious town, absolute — Theodora may. . .

Fwd: Personal message from Phil Vischer

— Let me know if this doesn't appear — Margaret  Having trouble viewing this email? Click here. Hi there! Phil Vischer here. I want to tell you about What’s in the Bible?—the first new DVD project I have conceived from scratch since VeggieTales, and a project I can’t wait to share with the world. The first 2 DVDs, In the Beginning and Let My People Go!, will be available March 1, but I wanted to take the time to tell you a little bit about why I am so excited about this series. What’s in the Bible? is, in a nutshell, an attempt to address declining biblical literacy in the North American church. VeggieTales was an amazingly effective way to teach individual Bible stories, but not abstract concepts like sin, redemption, or God’s grace. Yet these concepts are the core of a meaningful faith. Christian colleges report that incoming freshmen—even those from Christian. . .

A Case for Love by Kaye Dacus — Review

A Case for Love by Kaye Dacus TV society reporter Alaine Delacroix feels like David facing Goliath when she takes on the biggest corporation in town to keep them from putting her parents’ garden center out of business. Lawyer Forbes Guidry wants nothing more than to stand up for the endangered local-business owners—but it will mean risking his job and crossing his powerful parents. Can Alaine and Forbes make “A Case for Love”? My rating: 3 of 5 starsKaye Dacus has a way with storytelling that I really enjoy. With that said, I was not quite a fan of this book. The other books in the series I really like and her historical series I love. “A Case for Love” was an uncomfortable read almost the whole way through and I found myself stressed out for the characters not knowing how anything could end well. I don’t recommend this to. . .
