The Lion & the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney — Review

The Lion & the Mouse The Lion & the Mouse by Jerry Pinkney

In award-winning artist Jerry Pinkney’s wordless adaptation of one of Aesop’s most beloved fables, an unlikely pair learn that no act of kindness is ever wasted. After a ferocious lion spares a cowering mouse that he’d planned to eat, the mouse later comes to his rescue, freeing him from a poacher’s trap. With vivid depictions of the landscape of the African Serengeti and expressively-drawn characters, Pinkney makes this a truly special retelling, and his stunning pictures speak volumes.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an absolutely incredible treasure of a book this is from Jerry Pinkney. As an illustrator, this is his book through and through. With few words, the story is told through incredible pictures that enlighten the imagination. It is my understanding that this book has won awards this year, and easily I can see why. I love this book and my daughter at six months loves to stare at the pictures while I slowly turn the pages. There is so much for her to focus on. I know that this will be a treasure to read as well go along and along in years.

I highly recommend this book. Without hesitation I would buy more artistic books from Jerry Pinkney in the future.
