Panic Attack!

Well, there is one more notch on my nerves. I wrote this post, then AppleBlossom deleted it. Breathe. Breathe they say breathe. Okay. Now… try again. The last three hours have been the most stressful of my entire blogging life and I just about threw in the hat never to darken the doors of a blog again. Why not just return my computer and go away completely from this partial life of mine. I was so frustrated! Let me tell you why.

The first crack was when I found out yesterday that ning will no longer be free. That means that my Christian Historical Fiction Ning community that I just got up and running and spent so much time on is going away… That’s so frustrating! Well, I have my own domain now, so I figured why shouldn’t I add a page for that. So now there is http://chf.creativemadnessmama.com/ to host a new BuddyPress atmosphere to replace that Ning that will be going away. That was a frustration, but I got through it. Although I was still a little on edge this morning.

After all I did not sleep. Why? AppleBlossom, but that’s another post.

If you remember last month when I got this Creative Madness Mama up and running there were some issues. But thanks to the help of Trisha of MomDot and Karen of Karen’s Web Works it is beautiful and working. Well, that is until about nine o’clock this morning. I went to www.creativemadnessmama.com and was shocked with an error box appeared and the page did not load fully. The error message said “No content exists at page 1! Loading 1st page instead.” Then if I clicked okay it would just pop up again and again. From what I could see there were no posts, no pictures and just the header and sidebar. I searched around to see what I could find from other people’s experiences, and it appears that there were not enough posts for the glider (my featured post slideshow). Well that cannot be the case. It’s full and there are older ones that would go there too. That cannot be right. So then I logged into my Dashboard to see if there was anything up with a plugin. (Apparently when something goes wrong, the first thing you should do is check your plugins). Well, nothing looked odd there, and nothing newly changed there.

Well in looking around for something odd, I found more than I bargained for… ALL of my Posts, my Pages, my comments. Everything gone. Dashboard said 0 Posts, 0 Pages. What? What? WHAT?!?!

I searched for that… found nothing similar. There was someone who their posts were in their dashboard, but not loading. But for me, they were just gone. Plain gone. I asked for help from a blogging professional mama and was told in the two years she’s been at this, she has never seen anything like this. Great. That’s terrifying. So more research. I hear the terms thrown out like “table corruption” “database issue” and on and on. I head on over to my trusty Live Chat with my hostGator and talk to a rude persona that made me repeatedly angry. Did not obviously read my initial issue, reply quickly or become remotely helpful. Just continually telling me that there is nothing wrong with the server and that “Obviously a change was made” and that I should fix that. Okay. Jerk! If it were for that guy, I’d get my money back and run the other way. But then after a suggestion to call them, I dialed up that 1-800 and spoke to a fabulous dude on that end. SO helpful! He listed to me rant and rave and blabber all my issues out and then within few minutes had the issue completely repaired! Not a problem on their end ‘eh?

Well… apparently there was a database table corruption error with my posts file. He said that he knew of something along those lines and was able to fix it easily and said the other guy may just not have known about it. After all they are the host and not the support for wordpress.org. But, he was so helpful and I’m all better now. And backed up.

Thank you telephone guy. You made me happy again. Now… about that screaming baby…

    • Funny you say that about losing your comment, as AppleBlossom just spacebar deleted mine. Sigh. I’m wonderfully glad to have found everything! Thank you for coming by and for the follow. I’m off to check out Mommy Words!

  2. This JUST happened to me too! I was SO freaked out – couldn’t find anything on this until I saw your post on WP.org, and that led me here. I have HostGator too (surprise, surprise) – am hoping the 800 # you called is the one on the website for HostGator because I’m about to call. Deeeeeep breath … sigh.

  3. Well, my experience with this issue went JUST like yours! The support chat guy threw back this “oh, this is a common Admin problem and here are the links …” I had to write back “Uh, no, that’s NOT what happened” – I sent him this link and your WP.org post link and he fixed it inside of 8 minutes, LOL! So thank you!!

  5. Hi Cherry Blossom,

I had the same problem this morning with a well established wordpress blog and immediately thought it was a hack too. That cold feeling in the stomach when you read 0 posts and 0 pages where there should be hundreds!

Thanks to your article it took me 20mins instead of 20 hours to fix – i got hold of hostgator livechat and they knew all about it and fixed it in 2 minutes!

thanks so much for posting about your experience here.

    J
