David doesn’t look very fierce in front of the giant Goliath. Can he win the battle with five smooth stones and God’s great strength?

My original introduction to the I Can Read series was through a few of the Made By God I Can Read series. I later realized that I had seen these type of books in Target and other places near the other small thin children’s books such as coloring books and activity pages. What I noticed in the store is that most of the books there are about main stream cartoon characters and other book characters that are neat, but not necessarily what I want to focus on the most with my child as she grows. What could be better than teaching her to read and reinforcing the values that we treasure in our relationship with Christ?

The Dennis Jones I Can Read series has several titles that were published all through out 2010 including more than a half dozen titles that share important and key Bible stories with the young reader in your life. It may be my personal opinion but I think that this artistry gears towards boys, but easily girls could enjoy it as well. These are Stage 2 which are for Reading With Help, for readers that are increasingly confident, but need a little help.

Going through these books, even now with AppleBlossom just enjoying looking at the pictures and hearing me read to her these are valuable. I can easily see the value of these early readers for later when skills are being established. It is so comforting to me to know that Zonderkidz has really made a nice long list of books for early readers and I hope that as we get closer to the time for her to start reading that we will have quite a pile to choose from in our shelves.

*Thanks to Pam from Zondervan for providing a copy for review.*

  1. Hi: Really like the illustrations by Dennis Jones that start telling the story immediately. Would like posters of same. Don’t see them for sale. Will it be considered? Would greatly be appreciated for story telling in the kids church class rooms.
