Coming Soon from the Pen: Please Welcome Historical Author Dorothy Love!
Jobs and Love Come At a Price in Post-Civil War Tennessee
Historian and novelist Dorothy Love continues her Hickory Ridge series with Beauty for AshesÂ
What made you interested in writing Christian Historical Fiction? Do you write any other genres?
For many years I wrote for the secular market, but ultimately I felt called to write stories that could be an oasis of wholesomeness in an otherwise dark and graphic world. Currently I am writing only Southern historicals from a Christian world view. I love it.
Are there any other Christian Historical Fiction authors that you think your readers would enjoy?
Lynn Austin, Catherine Richmond, Rosslyn Elliott, Margaret Brownley, Tamera Alexander to name just a few.
Are there bits and pieces that were cut in editing that you might ever share with your readers?
I do a lot of planning before I begin a book, so there is not very much that’s cut. Sometimes I expand scenes, but those wouldn’t make much sense taken out of context. I’m working on the possibility of some shorter pieces. We’ll see if it comes to fruition.
What is your favorite scene from Beauty For Ashes?
I loved one of the early scenes in Beauty For Ashes in which Ada and Wyatt Caldwell (from book one) are back in Hickory Ridge for a wedding. I missed them! And I love the scenes in which Griff and Carrie are working together on her family farm. I love writing scenes that show two people striving for a common goal.
How would you relate your writing experience and research to some Creative Madness?
The research can be overwhelming on one hand and so fascinating on the other that I can get caught up in the creative chaos of deciding what to put in and what to save for later books.
What is something that you have never told anyone in an author interview?
Oh my. I’ve been giving interviews for nearly twenty years. I doubt I have any secrets left!
Please please tell us about your next planned project…
I’ve just turned in the final book in the Hickory Ridge series. EVERY PERFECT GIFT will be out in November. We’re working on the cover now and it’s the most breathtaking ever. I cannot wait until I can share it with my readers. And I’ve signed with Thomas Nelson for three more Southern historical novels. Two are set in the beautiful South Carolina lowcountry, and one on a cattle ranch in South Texas. I’m excited to begin work on them.
Tell us about your blog and participation in other blogs…
I run my blog, INSIDE STORY from my website at www.DorothyLoveBooks.com. Its usually oriented toward history and historical novels, with an occasional recipe thrown in for fun. On the website, readers can find book blurbs and reviews, my photo album and bio, pages about the locations of my novels, and an events page that I keep updated with information on where I ‘ll be and when.

I’m reading Beauty for Ashes right now and so far I’m really enjoying it. I love the cover for Every Perfect Gift , I just hope the heroine doesn’t catch cold! LOL I teased Dorothy about that on Facebook. It’s all in good fun though since I totally love it!

As far as I am concerned ANY good book that also includes a recipe is PERFECT! But if it has the added bonus of being a great Historical Christian Fiction! WOW!!
I have over 200 cookbooks (not counting computer and ebooks) and I have NO idea how many BOOKS I have in my home. My husband (who is dyslexic and doesn’t read except the Bible, by the way! LOL) Laughs at me and says he has never seen a house with book CASES (not shelves) in every room in the house including bathrooms and garage! And it amazes him that I have read every one more than once. The only books I keep are the ones I love. They are like friends to me. I grew up without television and read every day!
