The scouts learn the true meaning of the Bible verse, “A wise son brings joy to his father.”
For their latest good deed, the scouts team up with Papa Bear and set out on a hunt for Bear Country’s best wild honey. Determined to help Papa Bear win the local honey contest, the scouts find themselves following Papa through a series of hilarious obstacles -through hollow logs, muddy bogs, streams, a live bull field, and even outrunning a swarm of bees!
Just in time for summer, both books are sure to rouse young readers to action, inspiring them to get outdoors and spend their free time spreading a little joy and good will in the community by helping others – whether it be the homeless or a family member.
Mike and his late mother Jan Berenstain use simple sentences and playful illustrations to teach emergent readers, ages 4-7, the importance of volunteering and helping others.
“Each of you must respect your mother and father.” – Leviticus 19:3
We can never get enough Berenstain Bears. Papa Bear goes on a hunt for an old honey tree and the Good Deed Scouts come along to help. Lucky for Papa the scouts are there to help him out of bind after bind. Cute and fun. While a bit unbelievable that Papa would be so silly. It is great to see encouragement for younglings to help out. The Living Lights and Good Deed Scots are always fun.
Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bear books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Since the late 80s, he has been very much involved as a writer and illustrator with his family’s creation, the Berenstain Bears. He continued to work with his mother, Jan, creating new books, up until her death this year. The antics and activities of Mike’s three children have provided inspiration for many Berenstain Bears books over the years. Though Stan and Jan passed away in 2005 and 2012, respectively, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from a studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country. www.berenstainbears.com
