Creative Madness of Historical Author Stacy Henrie!

Genres: Christian Fiction, Christian Historical Fiction, Historical Fiction, Romance

I love the phrase “creative madness!” It describes me when I’m digitally scrapbooking and have to finish my page, or plotting out a scene in one of my books, or my husband’s recent approach to visiting Disneyland.  🙂

But I’m coming to realize that fervor of creative energy, in any area of our lives, can’t be the same all the time. We need time to rest, to muse, to breathe, to slow down. Some of my best ideas for my writing come when I’m not at the keyboard, but rather doing regular day-to-day tasks.

This really hit home a few weeks back, when filled with “creative madness” about my upcoming book and other projects, I stopped for a time to watch my daughter playing in the sprinklers. Watching her joy at getting wet reminded me of the importance of doing less, instead of more.

What might have felt at first like a misuse of time, when I could have been doing any number of things outside, was a chance for creative observation and renewal. Seeing her creativity in playing and make believing is great fuel for my own creativity. Slowing down and watching her, also puts things into perspective. What is more creative than being a mom and a woman?

So as I inevitably fill my days with bursts of creative energy, I hope too to balance that with moments of quiet observation, moments of simplicity. Because therein lies the real power of our creativity.

No one would ever imagine a fresh-faced young woman could be robbing stage bandits of their ill-gotten fortunes. But Jennie Jones is desperate to save her family’s ranch from foreclosure. And the risks seem worth it, until her upright new ranch hand offers a glimpse of how much is really at stake.
Former bounty hunter Caleb Johnson is ready for a new, clean start. With a woman like Jennie, he could build a future there in Utah territory. But only if his gentle faith can guide her in a choice between the land she’s fought so hard to save and a future by his side.

About Stacy Henrie

Stacy Henrie has always had an avid appetite for history, fiction and chocolate. While she had a goal to write and publish a book one day, she turned her attentions first to graduating with a bachelor’s degree in public relations. Not long after, she switched from writing press releases and newsletters to writing inspirational historical fiction as a stay-at-home mom. She loves reading, interior decorating, romantic movies, and most of all, laughing with her husband and three kids. LADY OUTLAW is her first novel
  • Thanks for the chance to guest post on CreativeMadnessMama! I sure love your blog and it’s an honor to be here.

    • I love this post Stacy! and I’m so delighted that you’ve come by to share a bit of your creative madness. 🙂 What you said about taking time is so true and I find myself thinking about that a lot lately, but never really putting it into practice. I was reading a new book yesterday – something about Moms and Manners from HHP and she quoted a source that says we only spend about 21% of our life with our kids. I definitely need to relax a bit more and enjoy the open creative madness of it! While I’m not a writer, I have made myself crazy busy as a reader and reviewer and I definitely need to find a happy medium.
