Creative Madness Mama thoughts on a Monday

Random-Monday-Main-FinalLately I have been so domestic. I have really been bitten by a cooking and meal planning bug. I even have a new Pinterest wall dedicated to “Meal-Planning Bliss”. <strike(I will try to come back with a link, but I’m writing from my Kindle Fire app right now). I have been observing and pining interesting recipes that we might try. Then there are several mama blots with meal planning materials and ideas. But my favorite discovery has been a combination app/website/Firefox Add-on for PepperPlate. It’s amazing. (Although I have experienced minor issues between sync-ing from time to time.)

PepperPlate is allowing me to put recipes all in one digital place with a little drag-and-drop including pictures. Then the recipe is sourced and I can link back to the original blog post or professional recipe site (like Betty Crockery or Paula Deen) to see ones that have step by step images. On either the app or the website I can put recipes on a meal planner and even generate a grocery list that is interactive with check boxes. But my favorite part is the cook mode on the app where it will deactivate the dim screen feature (so be aware of time or plug it in to avoid draining the battery) and with a black text on white background is the ingredient list and directions. There is even a timer feature (it just shows numbers and doesn’t make noised or flash or anything). This is such a great way to visualize what to eat.

The last year or so has been so hard. I have been ill repeatedly on top of being a mama to two wonderful little blossoms and keeping up with the book review world. But even more so is the fact that I had no appetite. Nothing has appealed to me to eat much less cook for it seems like ever… Until I stopped taking one of the allergy medicines.

Back up… if you missed it (long story short): I was suffering from repeat sinus infections about every few weeks and was teeter tottering between antibiotics that did not seem to be working and severe pain in my right cheek. I had sinus surgery in September to clear it out and make the area to drain larger, but even with that no real reason or understanding for why I was sick again and again. I went to an allergist and discovered I do have quite a few environmental allergies that could be a start for inflammation and increased mucus but only maybe. So in start a few allergy medicines to act ss a preventative.  But… in set the non-stop depression and lack of everything.

A little before Christmas I stopped taking Singulair after reading about bad effects in a lot of people including depression. Then in the night on Christmas Eve I woke up with a horrible toothache. Several days and two dentists and multiple x-rays later I need a root canal and we started step one and cleaned it all out of infection, started a new and different antibiotics and filled it with a temporary filling with medicine in my tooth. Tomorrow will be step two and the actual root canal. But why is this a happy thing?

It’s delightful because the location of this tooth’s roots and infection is “very likely” the cause of the infection in my right maxillary sinus! The endodontist said it’s been there quite a while and I’m of the opinion that these must be related. So off the crazy allergy mess and getting “the” infection under control I feel like a new person!

[Okay, start reading again]

Almost every day in this new year I have been cooking and baking but j have run into a few problems. 1) The Enginerd doesn’t allow the food to be photographed before inhailing it, 2) nothing seems to last long enough for leftovers when seconds and thirds are considered, 3) on the first occasion of leftovers there was jealousy involved on who would get it for lunch the next day. Then of course 4) the Enginerd says over a mouthful “why can’t you make anything I like?” followed by a swallow and reaching for more. 🙂

MPM_ButtonRecent meals… I’ll try to put together a post about that. Tonight is {Slow Cooker} Stuffed Pepper Soup. Already cooking…

(Starting with) Last Week:

Friday: Cheeseburger Pie & {Slow Cooker} Country Style Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Saturday: Mixed Grain Casserole & “Healthified” Peach Cobbler

Sunday: Chicken and Avocado Enchiladas in Cream Avocado Sauce & Red Velvet Cake with Creamy Nutella Buttercream

Monday: {Slow Cooker} Stuffed Green Pepper Soup

Tuesday (root canal): {Leftovers} (???)

Wednesday: Kale and Sausage Stuffed (Chicken/substituting for turkey) Breast

After that is tentative…

  • So glad you are feeling better now! I can’t imagine suffering through sinus junk and all sorts of other things for so long! And … glad you have some new “problems” as a result of all the wonderful meals you’re cooking for your family. 🙂

Thanks for linking up with Random Monday! Don’t forget to grab the button and link back so we can take over the entire internet! (bwahahaha! Evil Scientist Font).

Glad you found the root of the infections. That is so awful, and antibiotics do such a number on your system.

    • Updated with links and linkup buttons. Now I’ve been told my ramblings are funny, but I doubt I’ll ever surpass you. AND BTW if P-Tracker… were free, I’d so be buying that, I could have used it this week! *sigh*

And yes… I’m so OVER antibiotics!

I think there is a free version of P-Tracker, I just didn’t link to it. I actually really like it, I get a little message popping up the day before to remind me.

As for the Twitter thing I stuck in – Word Press SUPPOSEDLY has a feature where you can embed a tweet, but it never works for me, so instead I have a “snipping” tool on my computer which basically saves whatever I snip as a .jpg so I insert it like a photo. It’s kind of a hassle, but I think it’s cuter.

And whatever is cutest rules, everyone knows that.
