Typing this on my phone, so might rewrite some when I’m finally at a computer. Last night while I knew my newborn son would wake up at any moment and I was already exhausted I decided to try a novella from one of my favorite Christian historical fiction authors instead of delving into a deeper and longer novel. It was a great choice.
I started reading this Nebraska Advent tale of a schoolmarm and a difficult boy child that was all but orphaned after his mother’s postnatal death and his griff shrouded father. While Simon has jumped into mischief and Hank has dived into work (even multiple jobs) to keep busy and avoid the pain of love and lost… There is another whom circumstances and God’s Will might just have provided.
The story is short and clipped. But them sometimes novellas have to be to get it all in. I wouldn’t mind a longer tale, but then Mary’s writing always makes me feel that way.
I pride myself in staying up to date in what’s available in CHF and I have to admit I almost missed this (thanks Amanda!). The Advent Bride is (to my understanding) the first is a novella collection of twelve Christmas Brides published by Shiloh Run Press an imprint of Barbour Books. I was blessed to read this eBook ARC provided by Barbour via NetGalley and truly hope to read the rest of the novels in the series as well.
Update: The omnibus paperback edition will be released in the fall of 2015 in time for the Christmas and advent season!
