Can a girl enamored with the adventurous seas ever be content with the tame life of a Southern belle?

When her mother dies, Elizabeth Benjamin heads home to Key West, determined to transform herself into the perfect Southern belle her parents always wished her to be. But nothing goes according to plan. Her brother resents her, the servants do not obey her, and Rourke O'Malley, the dashing man she vowed to forget, refuses to relinquish his hold on her heart. Worst of all, it becomes painfully obvious that her father is not the man he appears to be.

As family secrets come to light, Elizabeth is faced with a difficult choice: to perform her duty and abandon her dreams, or to leave her life of privilege behind to chase the man her father sees as little better than a pirate.

From the first emotional page, author Christine Johnson throws you into a world of impossible choices, hidden desires, and heart-melting romance in the steamy South.

When I hear of a début author I’m always curious. (ETA: So I know now that Christine is not actually a début author, but this is her first novel with Revell Books. She has many other Love Inspired Historicals that are absolutely going on my wish list!) The cover of this book really appealed to me. I did not realize it was a Florida Keyes novel until I started in. I was reading an eARC and figured I would read a chapter or two to see if it should go on my to-review list. I didn’t expect to be so captivated that I was reading well until 4 AM until I could fend off sleep no-longer. The next afternoon, I read the rest.

Love’s Rescue, the first book in the new Keys of Promise series has some beautiful scenes; Christine’s words are a poetic vision on the page. The title has several meanings which in the end reveal themselves. In places I was entertained, I was scared and nervous, I was excited and enthusiastic for plausible outcomes as they occurred. Throughout I was surprised by what would happen next and I continually wanted to turn the next page.

Love’s Rescue is an excellent read! I highly recommend it and would read it again. It’s been years since I read Kathleen Y’Barbo‘s Keyes novels and if you enjoyed those of MaryLu Tyndall‘s seaside stories, you will love this one. Reading the snippet of the next novel I’m eager!
