Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, …And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtainThrilled me—filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before; So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating“’Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door—Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;—This it is and nothing more.”
Edgar Allan Poe’s poem The Raven (Read the rest…)
While on a family outing to our LNS, my Enginerd saw The Raven as a stitched sampler on the wall and bought the chart for me to make it for him. My own father has this poem memorized to heart and it is always fun to hear him recite it in full. I’ve decided to pull these out soon as I anticipate the change in the air with school starting back and Autumn hopefully coming soon!
When I went back to pick fabric and threads, the wonderful lady who had actually stitched the sampler helped me pick threads. We did not pick the charted Needlepoint Silk, however, but we picked out her same choice of Weeks Dye Works and DMC 310. This will be my first experience with hand dyed threads. I will be using 1317 Eggplant and 1298 Gunmetal.
This will be my first time stitching on 30-count, but I think that stitching over two will be just fine. I have recently started a linen project over two on thirty-two count, so I am eager to start this project. I think it might go rather quickly. I hope that the Enginerd will like the finished project.

I dream of stone castles. Sometimes a dark beauty walks the bridge. Her velvet, beaded gown makes a muffled whisper against the cool marble. I can hear the fluttery wings of her friends in the mist. She is a gorgeous, complicated, sweetly wicked woman.
I adore her.
Nora Corbett, Mirabilia Designs
While it was following Joan Elliott’s designs that brought me into this new adventure of deeper cross stitch outside of big box store stitching kits I have now discovered Nora Corbett as well. In another note, I can mention that I have already started Mirabilia’s brand new Rapunzel as well as her mother also a designer of Lavender & Lace’s In the Arms of an Angel. What an amazing legacy Nora’s family has!
After getting my Enginerd’s kit together for me to make him La-D-Da’s The Raven, I stumbled across Mirabilia’s The Raven Queen and I just couldn’t help myself. We are fans of Charlize Theron’s performance in Snow White and the Huntsman and I think I just might have to watch that one while I work. Ohh… now I need to make a good movie playlist of Halloweenish films to watch. Recommendations encouraged!
This will be my first time working with hand painted fabric, although I have a few projects already started on hand dyed fabrics. I’m eager to see how it will turn out. I just loved the stitched out one when I found it on Pinterest in Sunny Dyes Fabric’s gallery.
**I haven’t decided yet if I will use the Rainbow Gallery threads. I have not looked at them in person, but I figure that I will go ahead and get the main of the project accomplished before tackling that new hurdle. I’m not sure why my floss toss image mirrored, but you still get the general idea…
