Our shelves contain a plethora of Storybook Bibles (as well as full Bibles) so why, you ask, would I be here today to talk to you about another new release… Several years ago, I introduced my oldest daughter to The Action Bible, soon followed by both The Action Bible New Testament & Devotional, and The Action Bible Handbook. She has fallen in love with The Action Bible series. I am in love with her enthusiasm to spend hours reading and studying Bible stories. As a matter of fact, in the last year and a half our chosen Bible curriculum has not been working out so well with us. She reads her own personal Bible (a HCBS Princess leatherbound edition) but with our previous curriculum the stories and their details just were not sticking to memory for her like it did with history. I decided to still use the recommended storybook Bible with. . .
One of the best additions to our homeschool repertoire in the past few years is the inclusion of audio dramatization adventures especially The Extraordinary Adventures of G.A. Henty from the amazing creative of Heirloom Audio Productions. Most recently we have journeyed to the far west in the United States of young America during the gold rush era in Captain Bayley’s Heir. Over the last several months, we have joined and enjoyed the community of the Live the Adventure Club which has given us immediate access to bonuses that enhance our Captain Bayley’s Heir study. For the purposes of this review, we received a physical Audio two-CD set and access to digital components added to our online account. Audio Adventure We love having a physical CD collection of Heirloom Audio Productions adventures. Through our experiences with The Extraordinary Adventures of G.A. Henty, we’ve journeyed back in time in the car on. . .
I love science and science is a big part of my own educational background. In our homeschool we are still finding our path with regards to science plans and Apologia Educational Ministries is a very important participant in that journey. Through the blessing of the Homeschool Review Crew, I found myself ecstatic to jump into the opportunity to review Apologia’s latest update to the Marine Biology 2nd Edition Advantage Set including the textbook, solutions, and student notebook journal. We also were given a bonus of the Marine Biology 2nd Edition Audio CD, read by Marissa Leinart. Homeschool Marine Biology from Apologia is exciting and an instant favorite for my science bookshelf! What I received For the purposes of this review, I received a beautiful 557-page full-color hardcover textbook, a perfect-bound 8×11″ paperback black and white solutions and tests manual, an additional test booklet, a large 505-page color student spiral notebook journal, and. . .
Join Splat as he learns that a little help can go a long way in this hilarious storybook adventure. Splat the Cat is one silly character and he definitely likes to have fun. In this silly adventure he is all about his video games and fun his way, until his dad calls a family meeting and gives him a to-do list. Starting out, he tries to find the easy way out which really makes everything harder. Yet in the end, he discovers adventure is to be had in all the silly and messy places! Dax and Zoe are twins. They go together like peanut butter and jelly. Now is the time to pull out all those new books for introducing the kiddos to school. While it is true that in our family we homeschool, Twindergarten is still an adorable read with lots of good messages within. This would make a great open house book or gift for a new Kinder or 1st grade student that is heading off to school or a different environment for the first time. Twindergarten is an attractively illustrated short story picture book about a pair of boy/girl twins as they head off to school and to different classes for the first time in their lives to be separated from each other. It is new, exciting, terrifying, and awesome. There is some repetition in the text and it is a fairly easy read. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this one.
Languages have always been something of a dream desire for me that has not gone too far, however, my oldest student seems to share this desire and is eager to start our adventures with the Hey, Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek! – Level 2 Set from Greek ‘n’ Stuff! In my elementary school years, I had a bit of Spanish. While in middle school, I had a short Latin course. In high school, I studied French for years under the instruction of a French Canadian trained speaker. In college, I continued to study both French and Spanish. It was not until later years, that I really had a desire to add Greek study. In recent months, I have started testing the waters with some different curricula options myself for studying Greek. However, the materials that I have started experimenting with are not for young students. They are more for. . .
During this past year, my daughter AppleBlossom (nearly eight-year-old working on a generally third-grade level) has been studying Greek. Ancient Greece as it meets with the New Testament, Greek Myths as they relate to story telling and a Classical history and education. Now, as her course on New Testament, Greece, and Rome history comes to an end we are adding in the study of the Greek language (specifically Biblical or Koine Greek). She will continue her in depth studies of Greek Myths for the next year as we continue with the Greek Language (in addition to our studies of the Latin Language). In our journey of a Classical Christian Education, I have had the desire to try different Greek Language products to see where we want to go. It started with Veritas Press high school recommendation and my fondness of Zondervan Publishers with the Basics of Biblical Greek. While it. . .
We are one entertained family! Heirloom Audio Productions has done it again with their latest adventure CD: In the Reign of Terror! We have listed to this story over and over again, as well as our other Henty adventures and are enjoying the journey. I definitely need to add more of this thematic education or unit study way of learning to our school days. My stash This makes the fourth disc added to my collection of Heirloom Audio Productions’ G.A. Henty novel dramatizations and we plan to keep adding to it. For the purposes of this review, we received a physical audio CD set and access to download digital components. One of my favorite bits of the digital components is the Study Guide and as my daughter is getting a little bit older, I definitely plan to take more advantage of these components. Radio drama was a big part of my childhood and. . .
Do you even have to ask to know that this Creative Madness Mama absolutely adores materials from the people behind Memoria Press? In addition to teaching my own children on their level, I am also slowly working myself through the upper levels of material in continuing my own Classical Christian Education. Right now, I am delighted to have started a portion of the eighth grade Classical History curriculum. Thanks to the blessing of the Homeschool Review Crew, I am able to review Iliad & Odyssey Complete Set, a set of The Iliad & The Odyssey curriculum from Memoria Press which makes up the plans for Classical History in the second semester of a planned eighth grade year. What is in the complete set? Our box arrived, and knowing the Memoria Press logo, my third grade daughter was ecstatic. We opened it up and while I was trying to explain to her. . .
This is cute and a new rewrite of a story we know and love. As a mother to a little princess who is crazy about all things princess, and her sister who is studying literature on fairy tales this year we found this book to arrive with perfect timing. Cassandra is an adorable little princess (with glasses, no less!!) that really wants a frog friend to do activities with, however, when she finds the frog, he becomes a prince! This happens again and again, but finally it settles into a great ending for all characters involved. Veronica Bartles’ writing is witty and Sara Palacios’ illustrations are vibrant and fun. A great one for our shelves. View all my reviews
On December 6th, a brand new Christmas story releases retelling the story of the founding family of a town known as Little Falls in Minnesota taking place around the year 1854. This is a time period that I love to read and immerse myself in, because it varies so much from location to location, from frontier wilderness to Victorian opalescence to Southern Antebellum. This is my first Christmas read of the year and it was an excellent choice for me and I enjoyed every minute in my reading this story. I cried, I sighed, I giggled, and I got mad. This is my first read from Gabrielle Meyer and it will not be my last. I was blessed to meet Gabrielle in person in August and loved her as a person and couldn’t wait to read her writing. I will definitely have to go back to read her other. . .
While quite often we use a full curriculum, every once in a while we really want to focus on something to firmly learn a skill. This is one of the things that I adore about The Critical Thinking Co.™ and I have found myself super excited about their brand new Sentence Diagramming: Beginning (Grades: 3-12+) book. We have been doing lesson after lesson and really enjoying ourselves as well as learning and firming our language art skills previously worked on in the past as well. For the purposes of this review, we received a 68-page paperback 8×11″ book with 12 lessons through out on a beginning level. I believe there will also be a next level 1 and level 2 books available soon if they are not already available. Last year, we worked with another of their language arts books featuring Fun-Time Phonics!. In this review period, there are other homeschool families. . .
As you may have noticed, I am a book review blogger through and through. We are also a classical and living books homeschool family and love to read and enhance our learning topics by reading more and further on a topic. The variety of books, from Carole P. Roman, are right on target for what we need. For the purposes of this review for the Homeschool Review Crew, we were sent four books to use in our homeschool from a series, If You Were Me and Lived in… brought to you by Carole P. Roman and Awaywegomedia.com. We also have since bought others on Amazon Kindle as well. *Within the rest of this post you will find Amazon affiliate links. The use of my links will not affect your prices but will bless my family. Thank you for your using them!* If You Were Me and Lived in…Ancient Greece (An Introduction to Civilizations. . .
For over the past three years working with the Homeschool Review Crew, one of my favorite things is getting to review products on my wishlist. Another one of my favorite things is discovering companies and products of which I was not yet familiar that I find are delightful for my homeschool and I cannot wait to recommend them to others. Today, I get to introduce you to Everyday Education, LLC from where we were blessed to receive a digital version of their product Perfect Reading, Beautiful Handwriting. A writing program for handwriting that is appropriate for either an elementary student or one of any age for remedial practice, even adults! The Perfect Reading, Beautiful Handwriting program includes 60 step-by-step lessons and is completely phonics-based using an italic handwriting technique. The program itself is available as an eBook which I was given but also as a print perfect bound, consumable 8.5 X 11″ book or. . .
Within the last few years, a really amazing company I discovered is Heirloom Audio Productions. Right now, they are designing an audio theatre series based on the adventures of G.A. Henty novels. We love using audio books, and audio theatre to enhance our studies and this years option for review was perfect timing as we are wrapping up our Egyptian study series. I was absolutely blessed to receive for review an Audio CD copy of The Cat of Bubastes and a download of extras including a Study Guide, Soundtrack, MP3 of the material from the CD and more. At home, we have listened to the CD in our living room while working on other activities. We have added it to our three hour Wednesday drive and listened more than once. We have also listened to it again while headed to Ballet & Lyrical lessons as well as to the library when checking out. . .
