Best Creative Madness Mama Reads of 2011

Yes, there is about ten or so more days left… but I’ll cut it off here. This year I read 313 of my goal for 300 books this year. I might make 315 by years end! Then there is also a good half dozen or so in the DNF pile that I may or may not ever go back to. My understanding is that I read approximately 53,069 pages. Lots of children’s picture books, a few board books, some non fiction, and tons of Christian Historical Fiction. Earlier today I was asked for my favorite read of 2011. That was … Continue reading

Book of Dreams by Davis Bunn

Book of Dreams

For Dr. Elena Burroughs, life is divided into two chapters—before and after the death of her husband. Today marks the point that her span of being a wife is equal to her span of being a widow. Even her success as a psychologist and her worldwide acclaim for a book on the interpretation of dreams is dimmed by an unspoken If only.

Then a new patient arrives, one so private only her first name is given. Impeccably dressed and escorted by two bodyguards, Sandra recounts a frightening series of recurrent nightmares. Elena agrees to consider her case more carefully, convinced that something ominous may be at work here. Elena’s interpretation of her dreams confirms that, indeed, the new patient and her family confront a powerful global network of dangerous forces.

As the story unfolds, they face a key question of the Christian life: How do you understand and fulfill the will of God?

A Sound Among the Trees by Susan Meissner

Sound Among theTrees

A house shrouded in time. A line of women with a heritage of loss. As a young bride, Susannah Page was rumored to be a Civil War spy for the North, a traitor to her Virginian roots. Her great-granddaughter Adelaide, the current matriarch of Holly Oak, doesn’t believe that Susannah’s ghost haunts the antebellum mansion looking for a pardon, but rather the house itself bears a grudge toward its tragic past.

When Marielle Bishop marries into the family and is transplanted from the arid west to her husband’s home, it isn’t long before she is led to believe that the house she just settled into brings misfortune to the women who live there.

With Adelaide’s richly peppered superstitions and deep family roots at stake, Marielle must sort out the truth about Susannah Page and Holly Oak— and make peace with the sacrifices she has made for love. Continue reading

The Christmas Shoppe by Melody Carlson

9780800719265

The small town of Parrish Springs is not quite ready for Matilda Honeycutt.

A strange older woman with scraggly gray hair and jewelry that jangles as she walks, Matilda is certainly not the most likely person to buy the old Barton Building on the town’s quaint main street. When it becomes apparent that her new shop doesn’t fit the expectations of Parrish Springs residents, a brouhaha erupts. After all, Christmas is approaching, and the last thing the town needs is a junky shop run by someone who looks and acts like a gypsy. But as townsfolk venture into the strange store, they discover that old memories can bring new life and healing.

Once again, Melody Carlson delivers a Christmas story that will touch hearts and delight the senses. Sure to be a classic, The Christmas Shoppe is filled with the special magic the best Christmas stories share—that intangible mixture of nostalgia, joy, and a little bit of magic.

Web-Poster-Fall-Fiction

These autumn days we watch trees flinging their colorful leaves to the chilly breezes.

The word “fling” also brings mental pictures of Scottish Highlanders dancing with energy and abandon the “Scottish Fling.”

With the same gusto Cladach is celebrating and broadcasting the stories written by our fiction authors. More than good reads – these Christian novels elevate and inspire as they reach deep into the heart and soul of the reader. Stories can help us to more clearly see ourselves, God, each other, and the world around us.

“Reading about the responses of people in stories … helps us to respond more courageously and openly at our own moments of turning.” ~ Madeleine L’Engle

We think you’ll find this true of Cladach’s fiction titles:
