I love science and science is a big part of my own educational background. In our homeschool we are still finding our path with regards to science plans and Apologia Educational Ministries is a very important participant in that journey. Through the blessing of the Homeschool Review Crew, I found myself ecstatic to jump into the opportunity to review Apologia’s latest update to the Marine Biology 2nd Edition Advantage Set including the textbook, solutions, and student notebook journal. We also were given a bonus of the Marine Biology 2nd Edition Audio CD, read by Marissa Leinart. Homeschool Marine Biology from Apologia is exciting and an instant favorite for my science bookshelf! What I received For the purposes of this review, I received a beautiful 557-page full-color hardcover textbook, a perfect-bound 8×11″ paperback black and white solutions and tests manual, an additional test booklet, a large 505-page color student spiral notebook journal, and. . .
A while back, I was searching for something to watch on Netflix and I came across Patterns of Evidence. Since the first time I stumbled upon this documentary I have watched it quite a few times for interest and entertainment. Thus, when a review opportunity popped up for the DVD of the same, I was thrilled. While life has gotten away from me and I’m missing review deadlines, I still want you to know what an incredible experience this documentary is and how it is very worthwhile for your family. About the author/filmmaker/producer: Tim Mahoney Tim Mahoney founded Mahoney Media Group, Inc. (MMG) in 1989. Do you even have to ask to know that this Creative Madness Mama absolutely adores materials from the people behind Memoria Press? In addition to teaching my own children on their level, I am also slowly working myself through the upper levels of material in continuing my own Classical Christian Education. Right now, I am delighted to have started a portion of the eighth grade Classical History curriculum. Thanks to the blessing of the Homeschool Review Crew, I am able to review Iliad & Odyssey Complete Set, a set of The Iliad & The Odyssey curriculum from Memoria Press which makes up the plans for Classical History in the second semester of a planned eighth grade year. What is in the complete set? Our box arrived, and knowing the Memoria Press logo, my third grade daughter was ecstatic. We opened it up and while I was trying to explain to her. . .
As you may have noticed, I am a book review blogger through and through. We are also a classical and living books homeschool family and love to read and enhance our learning topics by reading more and further on a topic. The variety of books, from Carole P. Roman, are right on target for what we need. For the purposes of this review for the Homeschool Review Crew, we were sent four books to use in our homeschool from a series, If You Were Me and Lived in… brought to you by Carole P. Roman and Awaywegomedia.com. We also have since bought others on Amazon Kindle as well. *Within the rest of this post you will find Amazon affiliate links. The use of my links will not affect your prices but will bless my family. Thank you for your using them!* If You Were Me and Lived in…Ancient Greece (An Introduction to Civilizations. . .
Within the last few years, a really amazing company I discovered is Heirloom Audio Productions. Right now, they are designing an audio theatre series based on the adventures of G.A. Henty novels. We love using audio books, and audio theatre to enhance our studies and this years option for review was perfect timing as we are wrapping up our Egyptian study series. I was absolutely blessed to receive for review an Audio CD copy of The Cat of Bubastes and a download of extras including a Study Guide, Soundtrack, MP3 of the material from the CD and more. At home, we have listened to the CD in our living room while working on other activities. We have added it to our three hour Wednesday drive and listened more than once. We have also listened to it again while headed to Ballet & Lyrical lessons as well as to the library when checking out. . .
When I was in high school I took French language lessons. I took Spanish too, but French was where my heart was at. This is the year where I am so delighted to start teaching my girls, but especially my oldest the French Language. One of the materials we are spending time with is Getting Started with French from Armfield Academic Press. From what we have seen so far this seems to be a great gentle introduction to learning the French language for any age. When I first started going through the book I got a very familiar vibe with a particular English grammar curriculum I’ve used in the past. Scripted, day by day, one page per day and minimum tasks at a time. It was a good feeling. For the purposes of this review, we received an approximately 8×11″ perfect bound paperback book with a vibrant blue and red cover. However, there. . .
Ever since the very beginning of my homeschooling journey, including the years before my first child was born I knew that I would be pursuing a teacher/book relationship with the Apologia Exploring Creation series from Apologia Educational Ministries ~ (http://www.apologia.com/). As my oldest daughter got closer to the age where I felt she would really comprehend the texts I found myself excited and started collecting the entire series. Last year, we started studying Astronomy with the first edition book from Apologia. My daughter was working at her own pace through the junior notebooking journal and her little sister was always begging to color pages too. When the review slot for Apologia came around I jumped and begged and pleaded to be included in this review, and by the blessing of the crew and Apologia we were sent Exploring Creation with Astronomy, 2nd Edition in all it’s glory! What is it? For the. . .

Lately, I have truly discovered the joy in self-paced online courses. We have experienced history, Bible, and latin. Now I can add science! I am truly excited about this. Today, I have the opportunity to tell you about Science Shepherd ~ (http://www.scienceshepherd.com/) where my second grade (six and a half-year-old daughter) is working her way through Introductory Science. In a complete science curriculum, Introductory Science covers the topics starting with Creation, and moving on to Science Skills and Equipment and on to topics of Earth Science and Life Science including through geology, biology, astronomy, oceanography, meteorolgy, plants and much more! This course, Introductory Science is intended to be used five days per week for a total of 35 weeks. For the purposes of review, we received access to 12-months of daily on-demand video lessons as well as a Level A consumable spiral workbook and Answer Key to go along with the complete science curriculum. . .
Purchase Answers in Genesis’ most popular resources at great sale prices— shop today! In the beginning of February, I told you about an awesome book from Answers in Genesis that made me really want to get this one too! If you missed that review, make sure to check back and read about Unwrapping the Pharaohs (review) as well. Many years now, I have slowly been collecting books for our studies. After all, I have known that I wanted to teach Classical Christian Education since my AppleBlossom was just a thought and now our studies for Ancient Egypt are finally here and we use these resources daily. At first, I found myself confused as I was just going on memory and thought that indeed Unwrapping the Pharaohs and Unveiling the Kings of Israel were, in fact, one book until I started writing out my lists and then I was shocked to discover. . .
Memoria Press ~ (http://www.memoriapress.com/) is a long-standing favorite of the Creative Madness Mama homeschooling household. Most recently we have been blessed by the TOS Crew to review their very popular D’Aulaires’ Greek Myths set which includes a consumable Student Guide, non-consumable Teacher’s Guide, and cardstock Flashcards. To enhance our studies even more we also bought the Audio version of the book, and thus have read it and listened to it multiple times now. Normally, each year I share a review of the entire Classical Core Curriculum from Memoria Press and the D’Aulaires’ Greek Myths set can most easily be found within the Memoria Press Third Grade Classical Core Curriculum in both their new standard as well as their Accelerated Core. (Whether I will be able to review the rest of the core, is still pending.) We thoroughly enjoyed using Junior Kindergarten, as well as, Kindergarten, and First Grade, and Second Grade in the. . .
We are still in the beginning of our homeschool journey, yet for years, I have heard about the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) and their main program Teaching Writing, Structure and Style (TWSS). My SisterL sings their praises and uses the program with her children as well. If you’ve been around my blog at all you know that we are fans of the Memoria Press Classical Core Curriculum and more recently MP has recommended IEW Bible Heroes Writing Lessons in Structure and Style during the Second Grade year and has even added in IEW Fun and Fascinating Writing Lessons in Structure and Style to the MP Third Grade Curriculum package. *If you are reading this in a feed, you may wish to click through to the blog to be able to see the full details on the books. TWSS is a twelve-hour teaching seminar on DVD (but also available. . .
Curriculum research is something that I have been enthralled in for years now. As AppleBlossom is finishing up her second grade school year we have finally gotten a taste of the treasures from Institute for Excellence in Writing ~ (http://www.iew.com/) including a program that SisterL personally loves as well, Linguistic Development through Poetry Memorization. In the 2016 year, IEW has actually updated the program. So if you have had the original program for years, you’ll want to contact them to discover the updates, additions and changes. For the purposes of this review, we were blessed to receive a poetry memorization set (Teacher’s Manual and CDs) as well as an additional physical student book. Samples are available on the IEW website. In our agreement for the review, we opted to use the material three days a week. By the recommendations of the program, we actually used it more like daily, at least during the. . .
I think that it is an easy statement to say that one of my favorite product reviews that I have been introduced to through the blessing of participating in the TOS Crew is from Logic of English ~ (https://www.logicofenglish.com/) and today that blessings has continued in the form of the latest level of their primary school program in Foundations Level D. Link back to Foundations A and you can read my extremely verbose post on our original thoughts about LOE Foundations. We still love “Dragon Phonics”! When we started using LOE Foundations, I got the full kit including the supplemental Doodling Dragons book and iOS phonogram app. You can read more about those in my previous post. For the purposes of this review, I was blessed to receive what is knowing as the Continuing package which included the Level D Teacher’s Guide, Student Workbook, Flash Cards, and more. The Logic of English Foundations program is. . .
Demme Learning‘s Math-U-See ~ (http://demmelearning.com/) has gone digital and my daughter AppleBlossom is loving learning with the Gamma Level. We are using the Gamma Digital Packs and I have gotten my hands on the physical teaching products as well. For years, since we have entered the homeschooling realm I have heard of Math-U-See as a recommended math program, but at a glance the price and confusion of what was what always turned me away. I should have looked twice. Demme Learning has a family of products including Math-U-See, SpellingYouSee, Building Faith Families, and KinderTown. Today I am finally getting to discuss Math-U-See. While Math-U-See has been around for more than 20 years teaching students to visually understand and master math concepts, as of 2016 Math-U-See has gone digital. Adding digital packs to their line of purchasable materials making the world of Math-U-See available in a manner not yet seen before. It is. . .
*After reading my review, you might want to check out the free homeschool guide for adapting the current version of WOL. You might recognize my words. 😉 Have you pondered over the Course Plan of Study in the front of the Classical Academic Press catalog and wondered what you should do for your grammar study? Sure, you could do that repetitive scripted wonderfully hand-holding one, or you could immerse yourself in the jingle heavy one that is confusing to get started. Why couldn’t CAP just have their own program to fill the grammar gap? Oh, wait they will! WOL or rather the Well-Ordered Language is the Curious Child’s Guide to Grammar and it will be available God-permitting in the mid-spring! WOL is a set of two 8×11” books with each one covering one-semester. There is a Teacher’s Edition and a Student Edition. The Teacher’s Edition is a reprint of the. . .
