Art Lessons This year we are doing an intensive study for American Studies. It happens to be perfect timing for us to start a new ARTistic Pursuits Inc. and this time we are diving through K-3rd Grade Level, Volumes 1-8, specifically Vol. 8 Art in America. We have been using one book or another from ARTistic Pursuits Elementary series for several years now and continue to be impressed. Art Books {Guest Post}
I have had a long running series on my blog, doing art books. It’s fun to see the variety of books out there and put them to use. 🙂 I thought I would tell you about some of my favourites. It’s hard to pick I have to admit, but I think I’ve winnowed it down to my top few. Get Into Art Places: Discover Great Art And Create Your Own!. This is a fantastic book that I wrote about here. It’s not very big at 32 pages but it’s chockful for art and ideas about how to try out the type of art on your own. I’ve used it with…

ArtAchieve (online subscription) {Review}
I have three children that love to color and create, but it is my oldest that verbally states she wants to be an artist when she is an adult. Thus when a review opportunity arose to check out ArtAchieve and their Entire Level I program, we were very excited to volunteer and have been blessed to be a part of this tour with the Homeschool Review Crew. For the purposes of this review we were given access to an online subscription and purchased a few art essential supplies. Some materials we were familiar with from trying other art programs in the past, however some were new and took me a while to…

Entertaining the Artist
My oldest daughter has long said that she desires to be an artist when she grows up. She specifically wants to be a painter, but to use all sorts of mediums. Lately, she has discovered writing and asked if she could be an author. When I told her she could be both, she had glitter in her eyes with the possibilities and excitement. While we are trying to education in a Classical Christian Education manner in our homeschool, I often am trying to find ways to bring in art to let her work her artistic muscles and pursue her dreams. Art is a broad and important part of…

2015-2016 Curriculum Choices (Looking Forward)
This is post that I have honestly been scared to write as I dread the judgement. Okay, so seriously I don’t have a large commenting base on my blog, but I know from numbers and interactions along down the line that people are seeing what I write. It’s here, in email, and feeds through social networks and what-not. But even though I’m sure you’ll probably read this and go on with your day, I still fear the judgement and the “crazy woman” thoughts you’re most likely sending my way. Alas. Yesterday I talked about looking back at our year and what we did. For a large part of things, they…

ARTistic Pursuits K-3 Vol. 2 {Review}
It seems like it was just a few weeks ago when we were reviewing Book 1 An Introduction to the Visual Arts from the ARTistic Pursuits art curriculum books and we gladly invested in the Preschool book The Way They See It as well. When an opportunity came up to review Early Elementary K-3, Book 2: Stories of Artists and Their Art I knew I wanted that opportunity! Several years ago through a homeschool conference I discovered ARTistic Pursuits and the program was recommended by my SisterL as well. Last year through our own experiences we knew this was a program that we wanted to continue. What is ARTistic Pursuits? ARTistic…

Memoria Press Junior Kindergarten {Review – Part VII – Crafts}
Hello friends! As of January 2019, I have an affiliate account with Memoria Press. If you’re here, you know how passionate I am about Memoria Press. Please bless my family by using our links. The Book of Crafts for Jr. K is brand new, it was not available when we first started. In the lesson plans I was queued with something like “Make a gingerbread craft” or “Madeline Craft”, but there was nothing more than that. Previously what I did was searched pinterest for great ideas and went from there. However, now with The Book of Crafts, no searching on my part is necessary as they are all laid out…
