The Master and His Apprentices: Art History from a Christian Perspective {Review}
Earlier this year, I heard a mention of a new Art History curriculum and this intrigued me. I had never heard of The Master and His Apprentices before this year and was skeptical but curious until we had the opportunity to review The Master and His Apprentices: Art History from a Christian Perspective. For the purposes of this review, I was blessed with a digital copy of the Teacher Guide and the Textbook. The program is also available in physical hardcover copies, I believe. A full high school credit can be earned by a student using this material at the rate of about one chapter per week. For the purposes of…

Artistic Pursuits: Art of the Middle Ages (Art Lessons) {Review}
I still remember talking to my veteran homeschooling mama SisterL before venturing out to my first homeschool expo and she told me to look for the booth for ARTistic Pursuits Inc. as even then, we knew we wanted it to be a part of our curricula plan. Over the past few years, I have been blessed to add aspects of the program into our homeschool life and most recently we have discovered the newest of releases from ARTistic Pursuits with their newly published hardcover editions. For the purposes of this review, we were sent a hardcover copy of Art of the Middle Ages in the new format of ARTistic Pursuits…

Zirrly Craft Super Beads {Review}
Have you heard of Zirrly?! My girls are especially crafty these days and enjoy many different avenues of art. My childhood had summers full of miscellaneous crafts like iron adhesive craft beads  When I heard about a new type of adhesive craft beads, Super Beads, that are activated by water and no heat iron necessary I was intrigued! Since the Beads arrived time has been full of craft hour every chance they get. For the purposes of this review, we were sent the Zirrly Mega Pack to use and explore. There are many different kit options available including jungle animals, birds, jewelry, 3D and more. In our kit, we received four templates with five copies each…

Through our experience with the Homeschool Review Crew we are introduced to a wealth of different types of homeschool materials and this time we are utilizing an online Live & Recorded class. Thin Stix (Art Supplies) {Review}
My oldest student, for years now, has imagined herself an artist. While her talent is still in it’s fledgling state, she has a passion for art and so far for all mediums. Thus when there was an opportunity to review Thin Stix 6pk of Classic Colors from The Pencil Grip, Inc. through the Homeschool Review Crew, we were excited to jump in to see what we might think. In short, we have found a new staple to keep supplied in our art box! My seven-year-old third grade daughter (eight and transitioning to fourth this summer) loves them. She says they are usable like crayons, but go on more like paint. They dry…

Art Books {Guest Post}
I have had a long running series on my blog, doing art books. It’s fun to see the variety of books out there and put them to use. 🙂 I thought I would tell you about some of my favourites. It’s hard to pick I have to admit, but I think I’ve winnowed it down to my top few. Get Into Art Places: Discover Great Art And Create Your Own!. This is a fantastic book that I wrote about here. It’s not very big at 32 pages but it’s chockful for art and ideas about how to try out the type of art on your own. I’ve used it with…

ArtAchieve (online subscription) {Review}
I have three children that love to color and create, but it is my oldest that verbally states she wants to be an artist when she is an adult. Thus when a review opportunity arose to check out ArtAchieve and their Entire Level I program, we were very excited to volunteer and have been blessed to be a part of this tour with the Homeschool Review Crew. For the purposes of this review we were given access to an online subscription and purchased a few art essential supplies. Some materials we were familiar with from trying other art programs in the past, however some were new and took me a while to…

Entertaining the Artist
My oldest daughter has long said that she desires to be an artist when she grows up. She specifically wants to be a painter, but to use all sorts of mediums. Lately, she has discovered writing and asked if she could be an author. When I told her she could be both, she had glitter in her eyes with the possibilities and excitement. While we are trying to education in a Classical Christian Education manner in our homeschool, I often am trying to find ways to bring in art to let her work her artistic muscles and pursue her dreams. Art is a broad and important part of…

The History of Art: Creation to Contemporary (Veritas Press) {Review}
My daughter AppleBlossom has stated the desire that she wants to be an artist when she grows up, specifically a painter. As a child, I was in the generation where art programs were cut from schools and the only artwork that I can lend any advice toward is that of needle craft, which is mostly self-taught. I do not have the tools to tell her much more than what I have picked up in reading books and from a summer semester (Maymester actually) of college Art Appreciation. I am curious about art, she is curious about art, we just need the tools to truly learn about art. We have found…

2015-2016 Curriculum Choices (Looking Forward)
This is post that I have honestly been scared to write as I dread the judgement. Okay, so seriously I don’t have a large commenting base on my blog, but I know from numbers and interactions along down the line that people are seeing what I write. It’s here, in email, and feeds through social networks and what-not. But even though I’m sure you’ll probably read this and go on with your day, I still fear the judgement and the “crazy woman” thoughts you’re most likely sending my way. Alas. Yesterday I talked about looking back at our year and what we did. For a large part of things, they…

ARTistic Pursuits K-3 Vol. 2 {Review}
It seems like it was just a few weeks ago when we were reviewing Book 1 An Introduction to the Visual Arts from the ARTistic Pursuits art curriculum books and we gladly invested in the Preschool book The Way They See It as well. When an opportunity came up to review Early Elementary K-3, Book 2: Stories of Artists and Their Art I knew I wanted that opportunity! Several years ago through a homeschool conference I discovered ARTistic Pursuits and the program was recommended by my SisterL as well. Last year through our own experiences we knew this was a program that we wanted to continue. What is ARTistic Pursuits? ARTistic…

Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address by James Daugherty
The Gettysburg Address is one of the most influential speeches in our history, written by Abraham Lincoln at a crucial period in his presidency and in United States history. Caldecott Honoree and Newbery Medalist James Daugherty's pictorial interpretation of President Abraham Lincoln's famous speech, the Gettysburg Address, was originally published by Albert Whitman in 1947. This book is available again in a fresh new edition just in time for the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address with a new introduction by Lincoln- and Civil War-scholar Gabor S. Boritt.
