Daybreak (The Days of Redemption) by Shelley Shepard Gray {Preview}

When Viola Keim starts working at a nearby Mennonite retirement home, she strikes up an unlikely friendship with resident Atle, whose only living relative, son Edward, is living as a missionary in Nicaragua. Viola understands the importance of mission work, but she can’t imagine leaving her father in the hands of strangers. Even though her family is New Order Amish, it’s not the Amish way, and though she doesn’t know Ed, she judges him for abandoning his father.

But when Ed surprises his father with a visit, Viola and Ed both discover an attraction they never expected. Despite her feelings, choosing Ed would mean moving to a far-off country and leaving her family behind. She can’t do that. Her twin sister, Elsie, is going blind and will need someone to care for her all her life. Her family is reeling with the recent discovery that her grandmother hid her past as an Englischer. Her father seems forgetful and distracted—and to be harboring some secrets of his own. Does Viola dare leave them all behind and forge her own life? Or will family ties mean her one chance at love slips away?

Shelley Shepard Gray’s Creative Madness

Today I am glad to welcome Amish Fiction author Shelley Shepard Gray to Creative Madness that Makes Me Myself. Please sit a while and perhaps share a cup of tea while learning a little about the “creative madness” behind this delightful author. Thanks for stopping by Shelley.   When I told Margaret I’d be thrilled to be a guest blogger at her site, I asked if she had a topic in mind. She told me creative madness. Well, I’m game for just about anything…but creative madness? I have to say, I wasn’t really quite sure what that was!Then, like one of those aha moments in church, it all clicked together. See, Creative Madness is what I do. I just had never given myself that label.But I kind of like how it fits. : )I have a tendency to do several things at one time. Like do laundry and bake cookies. Or put together a. . .

Wanted by Shelley Shepard Gray: a review and peek inside

Wanted by Shelley Shepard Gray My review rating: 3 of 5 stars*This review is from reading an ARC.* The first book in this Sisters of the Heart Series, Hidden (my review), was absolutely fabulous and a wonderful romance full of suspense. This second book is good, and I enjoyed the read and love the characters, but it was not very exciting to me. At least not in any comparison to the first book and other Amish books out there. As a theme for this book, the idea of being “wanted” is nothing new to most people, and our Katie wanting to be wanted and going after that attention (in her past) in poorly advisable ways is not terribly surprising. What was surprising is how she talked about her past as if she had done something completely unforgivable. That comes just from the back of the book blurb with “Will Katie. . .
