Itty Bitty Kitty by Joan Holub {Review}

Itty Bitty Kitty cover

The first I notice is on the cover, that is indeed NOT an itty bitty kitty… Secondly, Joan Holub, I love Joan Holub!  There is a plethora of rhymes in these pages and the story is poetic in style. Itty Bitty is a kitty on nearly a ‘Clifford’ scale. Ava’s parents are in a no-mood to the idea of a new kitty addition, however, she just might be a hero. I love Holub’s books and the illsutrations of James Burks are creative and colorful. I love the idea of a ‘giant’ Itty Bitty Kitty, but the premise of an escapee baby makes this mama cringe. I’m also not a fan of the suggestion to my little people to hid a little kitty. — but then maybe I take picture books too seriously. Coming in March 2016!

Cat Tale by Michael Hall {Review}

*This post has been updated on February 4, 2016 with my new format, with the Ultimate Book Blogger Plugin.* This book is fabulous! It is school shelf worthy. 🙂 With illustrations that are similar in method to Eric Carle this book is vibrant and full of color and while it is attractive, the absolute best part is the text. The story is fun, but it is the word play. The jump between appearance, sound and meaning keeps you guessing and brings on the intriguing. I love it an I will have to get a real copy, this is one I know I plan to use again and again for our grammar/language arts type lessons. I’m completely excited about this one and recommend it to all!

Up Cat by Hazel Hutchins

You’d be surprised at what a cat gets up to all day!

A cat can get tangled up in all kinds of fun and mischief between wake-up time and nap time. Follow along with the playful text as Cat laps up milk, messes up the house, gets up to no good, stands up to a visiting dog, and finally curls up for a nap in the sun.

The expressive, energetic illustrations against simple backgrounds mirror the spare but rhythmic text that teaches about “up” actions while leading the reader through a day in the life of a cat.

Together with UP DOG, this board book will soon be a favorite of toddlers and preschoolers who adore animals.

Quilting and Cats

Last night I made the ruling that Thursday is quilting day, and from that I was inspired and was able to complete my two outstanding quilt BOMs from Quilts & Fixins. Now there are just two blocks left and to put it all together. With this last one (yellow, green, and blue) I received instructions on finishing the quilt and I have some of the material, just missing the “bright” border. For more information or to see the previous blocks I have completed for this quilt click the tag “quilt” or “quilts” on the tag line. I really love this orange… I might use orange for the “bright” border instead of yellow… What do you think?? Patches and Hershey Kisses are very much into this cuddle season. I made a pallet on the floor in front of the fire, and there are I think six blankets that they are nestled. . .

Quilting Den

One of the absolute best things about my new house is the Quilting Den. Right now it is not much, and things are just piled everywhere, but it’s functional and that’s what counts. Here are a few pictures to show you what I mean… Ok. Here you can see, while I’m standing in the center of the room facing the Quilting/Sewing area. Patches is delighted about carpet being everywhere in the house, and you can constantly see her stretched out enjoyed it. *grin* Hershey apparently has decided that my “work table” is very functional as well as comfortable… On these shelves you see my HP collection, The Inheritance Series, Hobbit, LOTR, Narnia, Maid Marian, The King Raven Series, The Heretic Queen (my sister has Princess Ben and Neftertiti) and the Twilight Saga. On the other shelf my B&N Leatherbound Classics and then part of my Bible collection. On the back. . .
