Arts & Crafts for Elementary Kids Round-Up!

My beloved TOS Crew often has round-ups of the best themed posts. However, I keep forgetting to participate. But not this time! This is definitely one that I can eagerly jump into and I have more posts planned!

Who are, or rather, what is Frontier Girls?

When I was a very young elementary school student, I was a Daisy, a Girls Scouts Daisy. My next door neighbor went the full gambit of Girls Scouts I believe. Yet before I got too involved the Troop was disbanded (long story) and my scouting days were over. When I was in the later years of elementary school I participating in something of an afterschool program at a local church that was named something along the lines of Marvelous Mondays or Terrific Tuesdays or some such. We memorized creeds, prayers, and scripture and received pins for our prize as well as pride. I remember adoring those pins and that sash. In my later high school years, I knew a boy who was in a Venturing Crew. I was very interested in joining, but then I was too far away and headed off to college soon anyhow… and thus I was. . .

Sew-n-Tell Friday: Wuthering Heights

Yesterday was a busy but good day. I’m really having issues with being cold though. It seems to especially be my right hand. I just cannot seem to keep it warm. *sigh* AppleBlossom does not seem to mind anything though. As a matter of fact her room is so cold that I cannot stand to go in there to change her diaper. So I’ve been running in the room, grabbing a diaper, then we’ve been on the rug in the middle of the living room to change. Silly, but warm and effective. In her room we have a convertible bed that is currently in toddler mode. She loves it, but won’t sleep there at night (hasn’t for months) and I say that is because it was too cold in there at night. During the day, if she’s really tired, she’ll go down in there, but if she’s not tired, she’ll. . .

Work-in-Progress (WIP) Wednesday

Have you noticed the background of my blog? Do you know what that is? It’s a quilt block. When was the last time you saw something quilt-like on my blog? 🙁 This blog started as a way to share my current quilt projects with my mom and sisters. (I know one sister reads daily, and my mom has started reading more and more…) But there are hardly any quilt projects here. *sigh* Frankly I’m unhappy with my blog. With blogging in general. I feel like I keep getting disappointed about lack of interaction and this that and the other. (Woah, that was a different blog post that has merged into this one, sorry.. more on that later.) I need more sewing, quilting and cross stitching in my life in addition to in my blog. In case you missed it, www.MadebyMardi.com is up and running and I’ve been busy filling some. . .

Designing a Vintage Nursery Decor

This is going to be a wordy post. As this was originally a conversation response on Facebook, but then it got too long for my wall… The nursery originally was painted with a satin kitchen and bathroom sage green paint below a natural wood chair rail installed by the Enginerd with a Vanilla type color above it. The doors to the closet and the door inside the nursery was also painted with the green. The far wall with the window had paneling that we put up that was a beautiful natural color. It was gorgeous. We then had sage green curtains that went to the floor as well. About the week, the Einginerd finished with the chair rail, we found out that he was going to lose his job with 90% of everyone else and we had to sell our house. We now live in a rental, and AppleBlossom is. . .

Namemaker Sewing and Custom Clothing Lables

As I go through some of the clothing that is from my childhood I have discovered some cloth labels that say in a blue print simply, “Made with Love by Mardi” or “Made Especially for you by Mardi”. I love those labels. They remind me of how good my mother is with a sewing machine and make me smile. As we have started to try to get MadebyMardi up and running over on etsy (madebymardi.etsy.com) I have been thinking about labels. There are limited things that I can do with my sewing and embroidery machines, but it would take forever to make labels that I really like and that is not something that I really want to spend my time on. Plus they would never look as good as those that my mother ordered from a catalog back in the day. But I have found the solution!! *Thanks to ChicExecs. . .
