Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter by Seth Grahame-Smith {Review}

Abraham Lincoln was just a boy when he learned that his mother’s untimely death was actually the work of a vampire. From then on, he vowed to devote his intelligence, strength–and skill with an ax–to the elimination of the soulless creatures. It was a path of vengeance that would lead him all the way to the White House.

No one ever knew about Lincoln’s valiant struggle against the undead… until author Seth Grahame-Smith laid eyes on Abe’s secret journal–the first living person to do so in over 140 years. Putting a supernatural spin on revisionist history, Seth has reconstructed Lincoln’s true life story–while revealing the role vampires played in the birth, growth and near-death of our nation.

Death’s Half Acre by Margaret Maron (a guest review)

Death’s Half Acre by Margaret Maron Unchecked urbanization has begun to eclipse the North Carolina countryside. As farms give way to shoddy mansions, farmers struggle to slow the rampant growth. In the shadows, corrupt county commissioners use their political leverage to make profitable deals with new developers. A murder will pull Judge Deborah Knott and Sheriff’s Deputy Dwight Bryant into the middle of this bitter dispute and force them to confront some dark realities. Review written by my mother: Once again Margaret Maron has written a Deborah Knott mystery which is well plotted, is full of likeable characters and touches on relevant social issues in a subtle and constructive way. Her rural, but becoming urban, North Carolina setting and her characters who respect the past but move gracefully into the present and future are a pleasure to read and give her series consistency. I have read everything I can find. . .
