Colors for Zena by Monica Wellington {Review}

Colors for Zena by Monica Wellington

*My original post seems to have disappeared, but this is too good of a resource that I recommend to not possibly post again. This book could not have arrived at a better time (August 2013) as we are discussing primary and secondary colors this week in Memoria Press Kindergarten. Absolutely this fabulous color picture book is being written in my lesson plans as a resource for future years. Monica’s images are fun and lovely for viewing by little artists. The introduction of a color and the return to it gives more interaction than a typical color book would with just a label per page. Then the animals of color add personality and a feast for the imagination. I bet the kid’s will be dreaming in color after reading this one. The only thing I could wish for would be printable coloring pages to go along as an activity with the. . .

Practice, practice, practice! and it’s fun!! (with IXL!)

What an incredible year this has been for reviews, I’ve been especially pleased in finding new curriculum ideas for our homeschooling life. Some have been wonderful and will be new staples in our regimen, while others have been neat and we might continue if a budget allows. One program we have been blessed to discover and experience for the last several weeks that will definitely be a program on my go-list is IXL ~ (http://www.IXL.com/). In the past, I’ve seen sales for IXL (such as through the co-op) and I’ve seen their ads and banners on blog sidebars, but I never really knew what it was about…  Through the blessing of the TOS Homeschool Review Crew, I have been blessed to gain access to both the IXL Math and IXL Language Arts for one year with an account for both of my students. I’ve been using this with AppleBlossom (age 5 years, 3.5 months). . .

Preschoolers and Peace by Kendra Fletcher

I can hardly believe that my first year is nearly over with my participation with the TOS Review Crew. I have been introduced to some amazing products so far. Today’s review is an eBook that is perfectly appropriate for my beginning journey into the homeschooling world, Preschoolers and Peace ~ (http://PreschoolersandPeace.com/). When AppleBlossom was my only student, things were fairly like clockwork. OrangeBlossom was around, but more on the lap or playing on her own. Now that OrangeBlossom has reached the same age as AppleBlossom was when she started school, but is not quite ready to “sit down” and is doing much better with creative play and learning things have gotten interesting. Preschoolers and Peace: Homeschooling older kids with success while loving the little ones at your feet (e-book) is a good bit of advice and while perfect for my situation, it would be good for mamas of older students. . .

Kinder Cottage Publishing: Peter Rabbit Books

Creative Madness Mama was sent two books in the Peter Rabbit series for review, I chose to go with Christmas and Easter as I’ve never read a Peter Rabbit story with these topics. The concept and desire of Kinder Cottage is delightful and their job is well done. Kinder Cottage has a wonderful idea and delivers it in a great little package. The quality is wonderful and the preservation of something for a new generation is a delightful concept. I do hope they will continue to publish more and more vintage titles in the future. As is the case with all publishers, I’m not going to like every single book I come across and read, but there is a good plethora of ones that I will!

KinderBach – Online Piano Lessons (Ages 3-7)

This start of the year has been filled with new experiences for my children in the way of school. Something they had never had before was what we now call computer-school. The first introduction in computer-school for us is a review of KinderBach, or specifically The KinderBach Online Piano Lesson Membership with Teacher Corner. We have been blessed with access for six months to the lessons. Overall the program is geared toward children in the range of ages 3-7, however I’m told that others find it does work well for children slightly above and below. Our goal was to use the program 3-4 times a week and see how it went. This is the first introduction either of my blossoms has had to piano lessons. AppleBlossom has been begging to learn to the piano for over a year now. We were blessed with a hand-me-down keyboard and delighted to jump. . .

Making Babbies, the washable, replaceable lovey blanket

A few days ago, I started making some new babbies intended for the new summer baby we’re expecting. I was so excited about making this blog post and I’ve been taking pictures galore of the process and locating old babbie prominent photos on my computer. Then I started to type of this post, and was shocked when WordPress prompted me to make this …/making-babbies-2/. 2? What does it mean by two?! Well onto searching my archives and what do I find but a long forgotten post from 2011 (the arrival of my last baby and current toddler) all about making babbies. Well that burst my bubble! It even highlights the same main photo I was planning to use in introduction from my childhood! Hah! Hi, my name is Margaret and I have permanent pregnancy/mommy-brain. How are you? So let me refresh that post a bit with old information, new information,. . .
